Move over Oscar! The You Tube awards have come to town.
The second annual You Tube video contest announced its winners today. They included everything from a laughing baby to a commentary from What the Buck? about the stardom of Lonely Girl 15.
So what does it take to win a You Tube video contest?
After viewing the winners, it was quite obvious that most of them were well-produced, relatively sophisticated video productions. Scripted stuff with a purpose. (Well, not ALL the winners. No one could get a baby to laugh like that just because it was scripted!)
You Tube video is growing up. Funny definitely rules. The winning commentary from Buck was a hoot, not some stuffy editorial from an intellectual.
At the same time, some of it is very serious. The winner in the political category was a wonderful piece called Stop the Clash of Civilizations that did a great job of pointing out that people from different, “warring†civilizations are really much more alike than different.
I simply love internet video. What a great thing that people have the opportunity to express themselves in a wide open forum. Ok, so I’m not real fond of those close-up shots of kids popping their zits and I don’t find it funny that so many people fall down while the camera is rolling. But all the junk aside, the world of Internet video is no doubt the single best communication tool since the Gutenberg press.
Go You Tube!
