Video Site Maps: Getting Your Video Discovered in the Search Engines

How To Get Your Videos Indexed By Google

Many internet marketers lead folks to believe that uploading a video to your website is a sure-fire way to rank high in the search engines. Well….sorry to be the one to break it to you, but it’s NOT as easy as those marketers make it sound. Nothing much is.

SEO is much more intricate than just uploading some videos to the internet. From on-page SEO or local SEO, there is so much more than videos, so it’s important to understand that video is just one element of a very detailed SEO plan.

One of the areas of SEO strategy that’s seeing considerable growth right now is the use of curated links that leverage contextually-relevant, pre-existing articles and content with real authority, upon which backlinks can be secured.

The net is bogged down with zillions of videos. Just counting what’s uploaded to YouTube, there are 60,000 new videos EVERY DAY. With that much competition, anyone using common sense can imagine how difficult it is to get a video to rise to the top.

If you have videos on your website, getting them found starts with adding a video site map or an mRSS feed. Either one will present your videos to the search engines, so they can be indexed.

A video sitemap is considered slightly better than an mRSS feed as a site map gives you a bit more options and control.

As with anything, there is a right way to do it and a wrong way. If you do not include the proper tags and information in your site map, then your efforts are for naught.
