Using Online Video for Local Marketing

Using Online Video to Grow a Local Business

The global reach of the world wide web is not the only thing online video marketing is good for.

I am convinced that the next frontier for online video marketing is LOCAL businesses getting LOCAL customers by using video on their websites.

Instead of buying very expensive time on the local news for a 30-second commercial, the smart car dealers and furniture stores need to be putting simple videos up online.

Such savvy business folks will find themselves with a much higher ROI for their advertising dollars.  Their new potential customers will be more targeted.  They will save a lot of money and not be held back by high production costs and strict 30 or 60 second time limits.

Local search is much less competitive than national or global and  it just so happens that video is the best thing to catapult a site quickly to the top of the search engines.

SEO:  Competition Level is EVERYTHING

I am not a search engine optimization expert, but I have done quite a bit here at VPT plus I’ve had the opportunity to work with lots of local businesses.  All of them are terribly frustrated because their sites are money pits that don’t really help their business.  It is always because they have only put effort into the design aspect of their site.  There is NO marketing.   So the first thing we do is add an email sign up of some kind and a simple talking head video.

We optimize the site in all the basic and standard ways.  The video is a huge part of that.  Zapping it out to multiple social networking sites and video sharing sites multiples the videos effects on the search engines and the resulting traffic.

My clients are shooting to the top of the search engines.   I am amazed at how much faster that happens than here at VPT.  My competition is national and global, they know SEO and are bigger than me so it is a hard fight.  But I have discovered that local businesses are not as savvy so the competition is much less.

I just watched a video about a guy who is using this exact same strategy in Denver.  He is making real simple videos and then blasting them out through Traffic Geyser.

I have written about Traffic Geyser a lot.  They are the paid service that lets you zap out dozens of videos to all the top sharing sites simultaneously.  Using Traffic Geyser saves TONS of time.  Plus, the SEO strategy requires that you blanket the web with back links from your video as much as possible.  Traffic Geyser is absolutely the best and easiest way to do that.

Traffic Geyser also provides tons of tools and resources for you to make video, upload it, convert it and actually get it out there to the world.

I highly recommend Traffic Geyser and I have for a long time.    Now, I must say I am a tad flattered that their new push is exactly what I have been preaching for a while…producing videos for local businesses and getting them online.

Here is the video about the guy in Denver who started a business helping local business get online video up.  His story becomes more intriguing when you learn that he was a broke, homeless vet when he got the idea to use Traffic Geyser.   He didn’t know much about how to make video or how to run a business but he managed! (Yes, dear readers and the FTC, that is an affiliate link.)

The basic business model is pretty easy.  He finds local businesses who already have a website.  He shows them how they are nowhere in the search engines.  He makes a simple video for them and zaps it out using Traffic Geyser.   Because he has tagged his video well and given it a good keyword-rich title,  it shoots up to the top of google lickity split.  Then the client is so impressed he writes a big fat check!

What’s not to like about THAT?  I personally am going to push this tactic in my own business.  I am going out to find more of those local businesses and the good part of that is there are TONS of them.

Excellent info here. I first saw Mike Koenigs on YouTube. He is a natural on camera, and has great presentation and a trustworthy face. That’s very important. A lot of guys look like scam artists, but not Mike. Great blog here. All the best.

    Thanks Charles!
I appreciate you well-wishes and so glad if you found useful info here at VPT.
I agree, Mike Koenigs does GREAT on camera. Very natural. Plus, he has been around long enough for people to KNOW he is not just another pretty face. Mike has been on top of internet video and video marketing since the beginning. One of his first products I knew of was Infomercial Toolkit, a how-to course on how to make videos. It was really good.
Traffic Geyser is fantastic and I have loved it for a while now. They provide A LOT of resources that are quite helpful. Easy to make videos online and other tools to get a video made and then of course the distribution network is fantastic.
    Thanks!

    Lorraine;
I just made my first commercial on I-Movie, slowly learning how to do last minute touches with final cut express (fce). It turned out great! But Im due for a new Laptop as Ill be moving alot with my husband next few years. Im starting the local business service w/ TG.
Traff Geyser says the PC has some great editing softwares that are more user friendly. Im curious.. FCE was intimidating for me to use. Do you know the best Laptop PC that will handle the video editing I want to do with local businesses? Thanks tons!

    Hi Susie.
Congratulations! Making your first commercial on imovie and using FCE is fantastic. I am happy for you.
The PC does have some great editing software. However, it is not really any easier than FCE or imovie. In fact imovie is absolutely one of the easiest programs to use. It has a ton of capabilities and is so drag and drop easy. I think iMovie is uniquely wonderful in its combined ease-of-use and creative capacity. Final Cut Express is more complex, no doubt about it. However, it too is not anymore difficult to use than common PC based programs like Sony Vegas. So I do not agree with Traffic Geyser that Mac programs are harder to use. In fact, I strongly DISAGREE with that.

Most people already own a PC so do not want to switch. What makes a video editing program difficult to use is what level of control it gives the user. Is it a fairly automated program where you have graphic templates to choose from and your only choice as editor is what the words say? Or do you want to be able to control every last detail such as the size, offset, color, opacity and movement of some tiny detail like the drop shadow?

iMovie is more automated and FCE or FCP both give you ultimate creative control. Most brands of programs, like Sony come in different levels that give you different capacities. Fiddling with the details of the drop shadow is not a productive use of time for most low budget productions but is a necessary task on a larger budget video.

So the long and the short of it is, if I were you, I’d stick with a Mac. But if you REALLY want a PC, get the largest capacity you can afford and then decide what edit program meets your needs. The Sony line is very popular. Adobe makes good video editing software. Avid is an awesome brand. There are lots of small names. But like I said, FCE is not particularly difficult given the level of creative control it gives you. iMovie would be enough for the mast majority of what you want to do and you will not find an easier, more creative program than imovie. PC based programs are intimidating to the novice too. IMHO.

Good luck! Let me know what you decide. Thanks Susie.

I know people who have used Adobe Premiere for editing and did okay, but it depends on the level of intensity you want. Avid is very expensive, but a great tool. We use Final Cut Pro, but I understand that Final Cut Express is good basic tool. I hear that Sony Vega is a good option as well.

    Hi Beth.
    You are so right.
Level of intensity is a good way to put it. Level of control. A simple program like Windows Movie Maker will edit basic stuff, but you can not control every aspect of your graphics and effects, and you do not have as much mixing capability. Final Cut Express is indeed a great place to start because it is so much less expensive than FCP and on a creative level, it can do most of the same things. The biggest difference is in the number of file formats it can accept.
Sony Vegas is indeed a good PC program that has a lot of capabilities but does not cost too much.
Thanks again Beth for your help!
