Online Video Marketing Gains, Traditional Media Loses

I’ve said it a million times, but I’ll say it again. Online video marketing is the greatest opportunity imaginable. For very little money, you can reach a potential world-wide audience with a personalized message.

The quickest and easiest way to take advantage of video online is to learn to create what’s known as a simple talking head video. Here is a link to a long and detailed post about how to do just that.

If you need a bit of encouragement to get started, chew on these factual tidbits from the recent Forrester Research Interactive Marketing Forecast.

As the report states in its introduction, “empowered consumers of today expect a customized, interactive brand experience.” I think that’s the bottom line. People expect it. Serve them anything less, and they will perceive your business as a dusty dinosaur.

Even for business who just need a better local presence and more local customers, the World Wide Web is the best place to find them.

Interactive online marketing, which includes everything from email marketing to using video and social media (and even buying Tiktok followers), is clearly emerging as the new standard for communicating with customers. Social media marketing has been on the rise recently, with many more companies looking to incorporate it into their marketing strategies. By using applications, like Instagram, businesses can promote their products to potential customers in the hopes of increasing sales and business.

Traditional media is dying. Sad but true. New media online, including online video, is taking its place. The Forrester report surveyed over two hundred companies and found that, for the first time ever, they are shifting dollars away from traditional media and putting it into interactive media.

Up until now, business owners were sticking with traditional media and creating new budget categories for online media. This year, a majority of them (60%) are slashing traditional media ad budgets in order to increase their budgets for interactive media online.

People are now realizing that interactive online communication is not only more effective, it’s less expensive to create and distribute.

The research revealed that most people feel like the top three winners are:

  • Social media
  • Online Video
  • SEO

Now there is no doubt in my mind, as I have seen from personal experience, that any of those three methods will be more cost-effective BY FAR than traditional media like Yellow Pages or newspaper ads. In fact, I have come to believe that both the Yellow Pages and newspapers have already slipped so far in effectiveness as to be almost worthless investments for many businesses.  Time was when a Yellow Pages ad was just about all a local business needed to do to get noticed. Not anymore.

The Forrester Marketing Report showed newspaper readership down another 17% in the past year. Magazines have lost 6% of their readership.

As sure as the sun rises, these trends will continue. Take advantage of them NOW and reap the rewards.
