Here is a 6:17 review of My Video Talk, an online video platform for video email, video conferencing and more. Since I made this video, I’ve changed my mind about recommending MVT. I have altered the text of this post to reflect the change, but I did NOT alter this video. I NO LONGER RECOMMEND MY VIDEO TALK. TO SEE WHY, KEEP READING.
The services offered by My Video Talk are EXACTLY what many readers of this blog are looking for. Too bad it is not as marvelous as they claim.
My Video Talk is booming and being talked about a lot in internet marketing and online video circles. I can certainly understand that because it does appear to be a very innovative service PLUS it’s business model is MLM, so many people are attracted to it as a business opportunity, not just for the video services it provides.
Therein lies the problem IMHO. After about a month of being a member, I quit in disgust because it was obvious to me that this company does NOT care much about keeping up with technology. They have made NO MOVE to get off Flash and become compatible with HTML5 and mobile device playback.
WHAT?!!?
I was blown away when I learned that.
If they are not looking beyond Flash, I guess they do not want to be viable in the years to come. Maybe, just maybe, the owners figure they’ve already made a lot of money so why bother to upgrade?
I was also terribly disappointed in their video email platform. You can not import a list of email addresses, you have to add them one at a time.
Oh good grief!
That makes their video email platform WORTHLESS for marketers with an established list. But that’s not all.
Compared to similar services, I found their video email to be well, rinky-dinky. Their templates were all the same and boring to boot. Yes, every single template was the EXACT same layout, just with different colors. That’s just shoddy if you ask me!
MVT did give you the ability to turn the still images within the template into a link, but you can not tell by looking that they are links so what good are they? No one would know to click on them!
My Video Talk has been around for 8 years. They claim to have a great reputation but with a little bit of digging online I promise you’ll find plenty of horror stories. I sure did!
Stories about the platform being pitiful and slow. Stories about affiliates not being paid. Stories about the phone never being answered.
The My Video Talk company is based in California but started its service in smaller, international markets. They say they did this in order to work out all the bugs both technically and from a marketing standpoint. Now that they’re well established internationally, they’ve got their sights set on the American and Canadian markets and it’s full speed ahead. But why don’t they upgrade?
One thing I’ll give them credit for is price. They’re pretty cheap once you get beyond the huge sign up fee. (That is how affiliates make money)
Their service is broken down into five different products that all fall under the umbrella of online video. Which ones you get depends on which package you signup for. The least expensive option is just $14.95 a month with no joining fee and the most expensive is still very affordable at $49.90 a month. Now, compared to other online video services, that is a really low fee. Even when you tack on the starter fees, which apply only to the 2 highest two levels of service, My Video Talk is still a good price. ($199 and $299 are the start-up fees for the highest two levels.) Giving a bargain is great, but not updating is a huge red flag to me.
Here is a list of the five different products offered by My Video Talk.
• My Video Designer
• My Video Broadcaster
• My Video Channel
• My Video Web Show
• My Video Boardroom
My Video Designer is what they call their video email platform. Video email can be used to great benefit but the MVT system has so many flaws that it’s just not worth a toot.
My Video Broadcaster is the name they gave to their video webinar platform. The system is brandable with your own images and logos. Inside their conference room, you can show power points, images or use a white board.
You can hold even bigger online video meetings with up to 16 webcam inputs using the service they call My Video Boardroom. Honestly, I never used either of the conferencing platforms so I am not that familiar with them.
My Video Channel is a product that allows you to build a video-oriented website all your own. Your own private, brandable video channel online with no other ads popping up anywhere. My Video Talk covers all the video hosting, and gives you all the templates for easy website channel creation. But here again, if they don’t update their technology, then I personally would be embarrassed to have my website hosted by MVT.
Top all these online video services off with the live video streaming service they call My Video Web Show. Not only can you stream live video, but you can also store video content so you can have viewers 24-7 for your own personal web shows. There’s a programming guide and the ability to link up with all your social networking sites with too. But here again, (I’m sounding like a broken record) if the technology is not kept up to date, then it’s not something I want to recommend.
My Video Talk claims to be one of the most successful companies offering these kinds of services. As an observer of the online video world, there’s a lot of competition in this space and I’ve seen several companies come and go. If I had to predict, I’d say MVT is not long for this world either.
I hate to make such a negative post, but I am NOT going to recommend a product that strikes me as less-than-top-quality.
