http://SeenItYet.com/ grew out of such conversations. Seen it yet dot com is a brand new video online sharing site that aims to filter out the "junk" and just serve up the good stuff, so you can spend less time searching and more time laughing.

Yeah, yeah. A lot of internet video sharing sites promise the same thing but they're still loaded down with crapola. What makes http://SeenItYet.com/?

Seen It Yet relies exclusively on member rankings and only well-liked videos stay. If enough folks vote that it "sucks" instead of "rocks," that video is history.

So what's left?

Some pretty good stuff. I just spent about two hours (called it research) looking through their selection and I'm giving Seen It Yet a big gold star.

My favorite was the rap version of "Stay at Home Dad," a video I thought I'd hate judging by its description and thumbnail. But ya know, I gotta do my research so you know where the best video sites are…so I sacrificed and watched. I laughed my ass off. It was very clever and quite a homage to fatherhood.

"Uh oh, uh oh, he leaked on his belly. Uh oh, uh oh, looks like mustard and jelly."

Being a mommy myself, I found it rather sweet. The production value was high, so "Stay at Home Dad" was absolutely as good as internet video gets.

"Terrifying Batman" cracked me up too, even though it suffered from poor lighting. (Don't let your lights reflect in the background glass, that threw your exposure way off.) The satirical script made up for the crummy lighting.

Then there was the commercial for Guinness Beer that got banned and never saw the light of commercial TV. Ummm, can definitely see why the censors didn't like this one. But every heterosexual man under the age of 110 will love it!

Known as Atom Films for ten years, Atom.com is a large, well-funded internet video sharing site specializing in quality comedy. No kids lighting their farts on fire here!

(Although I gotta admit, that was damn funny. Next time he'll believe his science teacher that methane is flammable!)

Atom.com is owned by MTV and in partnership with Comedy Central. This really is the big leagues.

Atom is actively searching for new comedic talent and promises to reward budding comics with a chance at being seen on Comedy Central in addition to becoming internet sensations.

Atom.com is probably one of the easiest portals to mainstream success that struggling comics have. Sure beats traveling from one dumpy comedy club, to another, to another….

Just like standard TV, Atom wants character-driven, episodic adventures that will attract a continuous audience. Much of the video you see on Atom uses sophisticated production techniques resembling network TV. But don't let that scare you off, if the content is funny, your lighting and editing don't have to be perfect.

As a viewer on Atom, be aware that lots of the content is really just advertising disguised as comedy skits. They take a product, design some characters and a plot that logically features the product, then produce two minute "comedy skits" with the product taking a prominent role.

For example, they have a continuously running show featured on the home page that is supposedly about a wedding with a very sexy bride. It just so happens that all the audience members who try to get a shot of Miss Boobs-in-a-Tight-Red-Dress have a specific brand of video camera.

WHAT A COINCIDENCE!

With our advertisement saturated culture, no one should be surprised by that, but my guess is that advertisers will get lots of mileage out of this sneaky product placement disguised as entertainment.

Still, it's better viewing than the kid lighting his fart on fire.

However, if you like to watch videos with a bit more sophistication, then head over to www.Mevio.com

Ahh…the sweet sound of competition.

Now, internet video has a new site devoted to sparking competition among videos. Think of it as sibling rivalry coming to You Tube.

http://www.clashorama.com/ is a new entry into the world of online video. The site is designed to encourage competitive interaction between video producers and their world-wide audience. The audience is largely in control.

Viewers can cruise the videos, pick any two they want, and set up a side-by-side comparison. You get to vote using a slider scale, leave comments and ask questions.

Right now, the top two videos battling it out are:
1. Two girls do something stupid and one falls on her head.
2. A guy does something stupid and gets clunked in the head.

So the question of the day is: Who is stupider? Men or women?

A question worth pondering.

(No one ever said internet video was designed for intellectuals.)

Clashorama is powered by proprietary software called Clashware. The site doesn't actually host the videos, so you have to have a different hosting solution if you want to display your videos on clashorama. You can embed a video hosted from anywhere, such as YouTube or your own server.

Not everything on Clashorama is goofy. They cover some serious issues and there is enough variety to satisfy most internet video viewers.

Developers of the site are also hoping marketers and researchers will see the value of the software for use in product analysis and side-by-side comparisons of different advertising or entertainment products.

Well…I'd say yes, but whose fault is it?

The subject came to mind when I saw an interesting video on the web today where some guys at a Malibu beach got pissed at some paparazzi who were chasing after hunkster Matthew McConaughey. So they did what any self-respecting surfer would do to an intruder…they dunked the paparazzi in the surf and posted the video on the web.

I am no fan of paparazzi. I hate celebrity gossip with a passion. Most celebrities do not deserve public adoration in my opinion. They're immature, irresponsible buffoons who provide horrible role models.

As a television news photographer, I NEVER chased celebrities like that. It wasn't my assignment. I covered healthcare. I chased doctors. : (It's a heck-of-a-lot easier to get an appointment with a doctor when you are going to put them on TV than if you're sick.)

However, I must point out something not so obvious to the beach gang who threw Mr. Photo-Sleaze in the surf. Look how popular his work is. Celebrity gossip sells. Big time. Do you think the paparazzi are out there for fun? No, they make huge money for their voyeuristic trash.

Celebrity gossip magazines sell better than any intellectual or newsy fare, that's for sure. Everybody is just dying to know the latest antics of the bimbo stars. (Makes the reader feel intelligent and competent in comparison.)

Celebrities know the game. Don't feel sorry for them. They ask for it most of the time. Celebrity gossip means money in their bank account.

I have a suggestion for the beach gang: Stop buying the gossip rags and the paparazzi would lose their jobs without you attempting to drown them.

Oh, and let me be a nit-picky video producer and critique your video…It took one minute and ten seconds to get to the meat of your story in a two minute twenty second video. That's bad storytelling. Terrible storytelling. Imagine watching a full-length movie and the good part doesn't come until half-way through. 45 minutes of BOREDOM.

Cut to the chase. No one wants to watch the beginning of this tape…hopefully they will be patient enough to endure until the good stuff comes because it's only a minute, not 45.

But as video producers, you shouldn't make them wait.

Ok, so that's kind of clumsy, but I swear, when you learn about Ustream, you will love it as much, or more than ice cream.   And you WILL be screaming for your own account.

Internet video technology is the greatest invention since fire.  I did my first video live shot by bending a coat hanger, attaching it to a tuna can and electrifying it with lightning as Ben Franklin.
